Iron County Wrestling Academy Brought the Heat

Super State is never “just another tournament.” It’s the one where brackets get deep, matchups get nasty, and nobody gives you anything. And ICWA showed up ready to scrap.

We had kids stacking pins, ripping off tech falls, battling through the backside, and proving (again) that Iron County wrestlers don’t fold when it gets hard.

And yeah… the last tournament of the season is always bitter sweet. We’re proud of every single wrestler who stepped on the mat in an ICWA singlet, and we’re also feeling it a little because the season ending means something real—especially for the kids who are moving on.

But before we get emotional—let’s talk about what our team did at Utah Youth Super State.

🏆 ICWA Champions — 1st Place Finishers

Kynzlee Halgren — Girls 5th–6th Grade 85

1st Place

Kynzlee didn’t just win—she dominated: tech fall 18–0, then a fall in :25, then a fall in :48 in the finals. Statement tournament.

Kyndal Halgren — Girls 7th–9th Grade 108

1st Place

Kyndal was on a mission: three straight falls—2:38, :48, and 1:19 in the finals. Finishing power all day.

Brexten Beebe — Boys Kindergarten 45

1st Place

Brexten was pure pressure: falls in :57 and :53, then closed the finals with a 2:58 fall. That’s how you finish.

Drexel Ashworth — Boys 4th Grade 65

1st Place

Drexel put on a clinic: major 13–0, fall in :56, tech 16–0, then tech 15–0 in the finals. Locked in from start to finish.

Quade Robinson — Boys 6th Grade 115

1st Place

Quade went full machine mode: tech 15–0, tech 15–0, then tech 17–0 for the title. Total control.

🥈 ICWA Finalists — 2nd Place Finishers

Quincee Hone — Girls 1st–2nd Grade 45

2nd Place

Quincee was all gas: fall in 1:51, then a fall in :39 to punch her ticket to the finals. Big-time run.

Adalei Bongolan — Girls 1st–2nd Grade 62+

2nd Place

Adalei had a huge day: fall in 1:15, then a major 14–1 in the semis. She earned her spot on the big mat.

Stihl Bulloch — Boys 5th Grade 115

2nd Place

Stihl was dangerous all tournament: tech fall 18–2 in the semis and battled his way into the championship match. That’s a Super State statement.

Bo Christensen — Boys 6th Grade 145

2nd Place

Bo brought the heat: fall in :29, then a gritty 7–5 semifinal win, then went to war in the finals. Strong finish.

🥉 ICWA Third Place — 3rd Place Finishers

Cambrie Hunter — Girls 7th–9th Grade 108

3rd Place

Cambrie took an early hit, then turned it into fuel: fall in :34, tech 15–0, then tech 18–3 for 3rd. That’s the backside mentality.

Karson Stratton — Boys Kindergarten 41

3rd Place

Karson kept climbing: major 11–0, fall in 1:20, major 14–2, then won a 19–14 shootout for 3rd. Tough kid wrestling.

Cutler Hone — Boys Kindergarten 50

3rd Place

Cutler battled through: fall in :31, then a tech 19–4, and finished the day on the podium. Grit pays off.

Phoenix Doucet — Boys 1st Grade 68+

3rd Place

Phoenix showed real toughness, winning the 3rd place match in sudden victory, 15–12. That’s clutch.

Porter Mitchell — Boys 3rd Grade 61

3rd Place

Porter had a monster run: tech 19–3, fall 1:59, major 9–0, then a fall in 1:09 for 3rd. Bonus points and big finishes.

4th Place

Dillon Roundy — Boys 6th Grade 75

Big backside run with a fall, a tech, and strong wins before finishing 4th.

Braxen Stratton — Boys 1st Grade 54

Fought back hard through the bracket and earned a spot on the stand.

5th Place

Bridger Stratton — Boys Preschool 42

Bounced back and finished with a fall in :59 to take 5th.

Cole Robinson — Boys 3rd Grade 87

Tough bracket, tough matches, kept wrestling and earned 5th.

Jase Imlay — Boys 1st Grade 58

Big wins early, battled through late, and finished 5th.

6th Place

Ripley Hulet — Boys Preschool 36

Picked up big wins and kept battling all the way to 6th.

Dawson Hollerman — Boys Kindergarten 39

Won multiple backside matches and fought for 6th place.

And shoutout to the wrestlers who didn’t place but still showed guts in a brutal Super State setting. A lot of these brackets were stacked. Some kids drew hammers early. That’s how it goes at this tournament—and that experience matters.

One of the best parts of this weekend had nothing to do with brackets.

It was watching our older kids buddy up with the little guys—helping them find mats, keeping them calm, cheering them on, and treating them like little brothers and sisters. You could see the little ones light up when the “big kids” were in their corner, and you could see the older kids take real pride in being that person for them. That’s not something you can fake. That’s culture.

And it’s a big part of why we say it and mean it: we truly are family at ICWA.

What stood out most wasn’t just the medals. It was the pattern: kids getting knocked down and coming back swinging, making adjustments, staying aggressive, and cheering for each other like family. That’s a program.

Super State exposes everything—conditioning, composure, toughness, belief. And our kids proved they belong on that stage.

The Bitter Sweet Part — Our 8th Graders

We only had three 8th graders at Super State, so it wasn’t some huge senior-class sendoff on the bracket sheet. But that doesn’t change what this tournament means. Because the last tournament is the last tournament.

It’s the last time we’re sitting in their corner for regular-season matches. The last time we’re giving the between-period reminders. The last time we’re watching them walk back to the line with that look in their eyes like, “Let’s go again.”

And knowing that’s the last time stings.

But here’s the thing—when they move on from ICWA, we don’t stop caring. We still love watching them wrestle when they’re representing whichever high school they attend. We’ll be in the stands when we can, cheering them on. It’s just different.

We don’t get to watch as many matches, and our advice is usually given at a different time, in passing in the wrestling room. We aren’t in their corner like before. But we always support them, and we always wish we were right there with them for the big wins and the tough losses. We’re proud of them. Always. Bitter sweet, for real.

ICWA showed up to Super State and proved we belong with anybody. Champs. Finalists. Placers. Backside battles. Sudden victory wins. Pins and techs. And most importantly—effort, toughness, and growth.
